Japanese Yew

Podocarpus macrophyllus

LANDSCAPE USE
This shrub may not be flashy, but it is exceptionally useful and adaptable. These can take a variety of light and soil conditions, from heavy clay in sun to sandy soils in dappled shade. Being evergreen and dense, it’s also a good choice for low privacy screening.

PRUNING
They can be pruned into behaving in almost any way the heart desires, into a column, an orb, or a hedge. These can be pinched throughout the growing season to encourage bushiness, no matter which shape you prefer. Shearing the new growth two to three times yearly should be done to maintain a clean formal shape.
