Wintergreen Boxwood

Buxus sinica var. insularis ‘Wintergreen’

LANDSCAPE USE
You’ll find these tough shrubs edging the parking lot among our campus. They bring the bones to landscape design, add structure by pairing large evergreens on pathways or entry ways. The Wintergreen Boxwood has especially dark leaves as it matures, glossy and nearly round.

PRUNING
The world is your oyster, all Buxus cultivars are a top choice for topiary and hedging. To maintain an informal hedge shear off new growth twice during the growing season, with a slightly deeper prune in winter. For a more formal look, the growth should be trimmed very sparingly every month of the growing season. Take care not to cut into deep wood on the sides and bottom of the plant, shading from the top of the canopy means these areas may struggle to re-bud in a timely fashion, leaving unsightly gaps.
