In the south, this is an evergreen plant that is an absolute workhorse. Provides opportunities for near zero maintenance as hillside erosion control, or in masse commercial plantings. This cultivar has very bronzed new growth that fades into green, and unlike other Distylium, ‘Cast in Bronze’ produces small rusty flowers in late winter to early spring.
PRUNING
Simply remove any diseased or rubbing branches during winter, tip pinching may be caried out through the growing season to encourage bushiness. These may also be trained into a low hedge.
